Invisalign vs Braces in Dubai

6 Aug 2026 Updated 8 Sep 2026 Orthodontics

Almost every patient who comes in for orthodontic treatment asks the same question within the first five minutes: aligners or braces? It is the right question, and the honest answer is that both work. What separates them is not effectiveness but what each one asks of you day to day, and how complex your case turns out to be.

How both actually move teeth

The biology is identical. Steady, gentle pressure applied to a tooth causes the bone around its root to remodel, and the tooth settles into a new position. Braces deliver that pressure through brackets bonded to your teeth and an archwire that is adjusted over time. Invisalign deliver it through a series of trays, each shaped slightly differently from the last.

Because the mechanism is the same, neither is inherently faster. What changes the timeline is your case, not your appliance.

What Invisalign asks of you

Invisalign aligners are removable, which is their greatest strength and their only real weakness. You take them out to eat and to brush, so nothing is off the menu and cleaning your teeth stays exactly as it was before treatment. Nobody notices them across a meeting table.

The catch is that they only work while they are in your mouth. Twenty to twenty-two hours a day, every day. If you are the kind of person who will leave them in a napkin at lunch, the treatment will stall, and I would rather tell you that now than six months in.

What braces ask of you

Braces are fixed, so compliance is not a variable. They work whether or not you remember them, which is why I still recommend them for teenagers and for anyone whose schedule makes routine difficult.

They also handle complexity that aligners struggle with. Severe rotations, significant bite discrepancies, cases needing extractions or heavy vertical movement: brackets and wires give an orthodontist more direct control over what each tooth does.

In exchange, you adjust your diet, you spend more time on hygiene, and they are visible. Ceramic brackets soften that considerably, but they do not disappear.

Which cases suit which

Mild to moderate crowding or spacing in a motivated adult is aligner territory almost every time. So is a relapse case where teeth have drifted after previous treatment.

Growing children needing arch development, complex bites, and cases where I expect to fight for every millimetre of root position are braces cases. There is a middle band where either would finish well, and there the decision is genuinely yours to make on lifestyle grounds.

What decides it is your scan, not a brochure. We take records, we look at the bite, and we tell you which options are realistic for your mouth.

Treatment time and visits

Most cases finish between twelve and twenty-four months with either system. Simple corrections can be shorter. Anyone promising a fixed number of months before seeing your scans is guessing.

Aligner patients typically come in every six to eight weeks and swap trays at home. Braces patients come in every four to six weeks for adjustments. Neither is a significant burden, but if travel makes your schedule unpredictable, aligners give you more room.

Cost

Braces are generally the more economical route, with ceramic brackets sitting above metal because of the material. Aligner treatment usually lands above both, and the figure moves with the number of trays your case needs.

Metal braces From AED 4,000
Ceramic braces From AED 4,000
Invisalign 8000-25000

Ranges for complete treatment at The Nook, including records, all adjustments and retainers. Your exact fee depends on case complexity and is confirmed after your scan.

What the fee should always include: full records and diagnosis, every adjustment or tray, and your retainers at the end. Retention is not an optional extra. Teeth drift for a lifetime, and a result you do not retain is a result you will lose.

After treatment, either way

Both routes end the same place: a fixed retainer bonded behind the front teeth, a removable one worn at night, and periodic checks so small shifts get caught early. This part matters more than which appliance got you there.

How we decide together

The first visit is a scan, photographs and a bite analysis. From that I can tell you what your case actually needs, show you a simulation of the likely result, and give you a written plan with the timeline and the cost. If both options would work for you, I will say so and let you choose. If only one will give you a stable result, I will tell you that too.

Frequently asked questions

For mild to moderate cases, yes, provided the trays are worn twenty to twenty-two hours a day. For complex rotations, significant bite correction or extraction cases, fixed braces give the orthodontist more direct control and a more predictable finish.

Neither, inherently. Treatment time depends on your case, not the appliance. Most cases finish between twelve and twenty-four months either way.

Most patients adjust within a few days with either option. Any early lisp settles quickly as the tongue adapts.

It is possible and occasionally the right call, usually when a case turns out to need movement that aligners cannot deliver. We would discuss it openly rather than persist with something that will not finish well.

Yes. Retention is part of the treatment, not an afterthought, and it is the same protocol regardless of which route you took.

It can be, and there is a version designed for growing patients. The deciding factor is compliance rather than age. For a teenager who will not consistently wear the trays, fixed braces remove the variable.
